… a fresh start
Ben and Ava recently moved with their five children to the Youngstown area in hopes of a better life.
The kids were between the ages of six months to 7 years old.
The family had been living in their car for weeks when a case worker from Catholic Charities received Ben’s call.
Once here in Youngstown, Ben wasn’t unable to get a job right away as planned because he had lost his birth certificate during the move, and could not get any replacement identification without it.
Catholic Charities immediately helped the family with diapers, wipes, food and clean clothing for the children. These much needed items were provided through Catholic Charities First Step program. The case worker then moved the family into a hotel for a few days until they could be placed into the Rescue Mission. A few days after that, the case worker was able to move them into Catholic Charities Voice of Hope Shelter. Through the First Step program, we continued to provide diapers, wipes, formula, food and other material items for this family in need.
During this time, the case worker was working with Ben to secure identification so he would be able to gain employment and later find a permanent place to live.
Until then, this family of seven will be safely sheltered.
Ben and Ava have expressed to us that they are very thankful for the help and hope Catholic Charities has provided and now feel that despite their difficulties, coming to Youngstown will prove to be a positive experience.
