Harriet’s Cupboard is a program of Catholic Charities. The purpose of this service is to establish a collection of hygiene items, paper products and cleaning supplies for people in need throughout our diocese.
Many people come to Catholic Charities for assistance in need of basic items that countless individuals often take for granted (soap, shampoo, toilet paper). Therefore, all of Catholic Charities service agencies collect personal hygiene items, paper products and cleaning supplies throughout the year to help restore clients’ dignity and self-esteem. Our Agency sites hope to alleviate some stress and make life a little more hopeful for clients in need by providing these needed resources. These items bring clients one step closer to self-sufficiency and make them a little more optimistic about the future.
As summer approaches, we would like to stock Harriet’s Cupboard with items that will help families in need who often don’t have the resources to purchase cleaning supplies and materials. Everyone can benefit from having a clean space, regardless of income level.
In addition, we turn our focus to food insecurities throughout our diocese. Many families with children, who are enrolled in their schools free/reduced breakfast and lunch program have no idea where they will get the nourishment they need during these summer months when school is not in session. We will fill our pantries and cupboards with healthy food choices for meals and snacks to provide to those who otherwise would go without.
The success of Harriet’s Cupboard depends on our generous donors. We rely solely on donations to fill our cupboards. We also look for sponsors each month. Sponsors are asked to collect items to help fill Harriet’s Cupboard and then are featured on our website and social media venues.
